Our Story

The Beginnings of Grok Cancer Movement Charity

Due to the fact that there simply isn't enough local and national funding for post-treatment cancer rehabilitation services and programmes, specifically in Northern Ireland, my team and I have decided to launch a non-profit organisation to support those dealing with breast cancer and all the harsh side effects associated with breast cancer treatments.

As a long-serving cancer rehab specialist helping people on the recovery journey from cancer, I have become well acquainted with the adage that "cancer doesn't discriminate" and so, I believe that everyone should have the right to specialised exercise programmes that are specific to their diagnosis and have the opportunity to be educated in safe, effective rehab exercise and lifestyle intervention strategies.

This was to be the beginning of Grok Cancer Movement Charity.

My Story

The story began with my sister-in-law, Natalie, who was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Over the past 6 years I have been successfully helping and supporting her full recovery; regaining the use of her arm and subsequently avoiding lymphoedema- she is now stronger than she has ever been and leading a more productive and active life.

Over this time, I have been able to help many people to recover from their cancer and the debilitating side effects that come attached to cancer treatments. I have had many of my family and friends affected by cancer, some of which have sadly lost their battle with this dreadful disease.

This is why I am committed to raising awareness of the importance of cancer rehabilitation in Northern Ireland and beyond so cancer survivors may know there are specially designed programmes for them – ones that are diagnosis-specific, effective and offer long-term benefits on the road to post-treatment recovery.
